Incorporating the First Peoples Principles of Learning (FPPL) is essential to developing a decolonized and Indigenously inclusive classroom. Alongside including Indigenous content in the classroom, I look to the FPPL to inform each lesson and unit that I design. Lessons and units that are formed according to Indigenous pedagogical structures inherently put the learner first and engage directly with principles of Universal Design for Learning. In order to address Truth and Reconciliation, education must move away from it’s colonial roots and embrace Indigenous pedagogies and the benefits that they bring to all students, Indigenous and non-Indigenous alike.
