Because teaching is a profession that involves children and is embedded in community, it is important for educators to be acutely aware of their professionalism both inside and outside of the classroom. In addition, an educator’s job is complex and variable, so following professional standards ensures that there is a consistency of professionalism throughout the province. Though I stand strongly behind each standard, the most pertinent standard to me is the first which states, “educators value the success of all students. Educators care for students and act in their best interests.” As a teacher candidate, I plan to put the students and their needs first. I commit myself to creating a positive, inclusive, safe, and open environment to ensure student success, growth and development.
