SD73 ASSAI Program

School District #73 provides programming for students at elementary schools across the district after their school day ends from 2:30pm until 4:30pm under a program called the After-School Sports and Arts Initiative or ASSAI. The programming offered depends on what skills the employees can offer to the students. Since beginning there, I have been involved in a soccer program, an art program, and a knitting program for students from kindergarten to grade 7. I have worked as both a support teacher and a leader and program developer. This after-school program has allowed me to take the theoretical skills I have learned in my Bachelor of Education and use them in a practical setting. I have learned so much in the short 7 months that I have been with the program and I am so privileged to have this experience alongside my practicum experience.

Sun Peaks Bike Park Coach

In summer 2021 and 2022 I was a mountain bike coach in a 6-week bike program for women looking to progress their mountain bike skills. During these two summers I got the opportunity to develop my skills as a coach whilst having an opportunity to give back to my local mountain bike community. I feel that women specific spaces such as these are important in male-dominated environments like mountain biking as they provide a safe space for women to try new things, develop their confidence and find community. A necessity on the journey to creating an equitable scene in action sports.

Iron Road Brewing Front of House Manager

I have worked at Iron Road Brewing since October 2018. From January 2019 until September 2021, I acted as the front of house (FOH) manager alongside being a bartender and server. During my time as the FOH manager at Iron Road Brewing I was responsible for ensuring that the restaurant ran smoothly and productively. I was in charge of hiring, training, scheduling, ordering, organizing staff events, finding solutions to customer and staff conflicts, and much more. This experience was especially unique and challenging as I managed the restaurant through the darkest days of the Covid-19 pandemic. During that time, I was in charge of developing and implementing a Covid-19 safety plan and keeping up to date with the provincial mandates to ensure that our staff and our customer were comfortable and most importantly, safe. As someone who has worked in the restaurant industry for over 10 years, I can confidently make strong correlations between managing a restaurant and managing a classroom. Through my working experiences, I have gained exceptional multi-tasking skills, interpersonal and communication skills, and I have inherently developed “eyes on the back of my head”. In the workplace, I have often used positive reinforcement while mentoring staff and focused my managing style around creating and maintaining relationships.
